The Shiveet Mankhan ger camp is located in the sum of Tsenkher, Arkhangai province, at 1860 meters altitude. Its distinctive feature is the thermal spring that flows at 82°C and feeds two pools set in the heart of central Mongolia's steppes.

Why stay at Shiveet Mankhan

Founded in 2001, the camp combines two assets rarely found together in a single Mongolian accommodation: an authentic rural setting in a traditional ger and access to a hot spring exploited for decades by residents of the region. The pools were completely renovated in 2014 to form two 35 m² swimming basins, where the spring water cools to approximately 38°C, a temperature ideal for bathing after a day on horseback or in a 4x4.

The altitude of 1860 meters and its position in Arkhangai make Shiveet Mankhan a logical stopping point for itineraries linking Karakorum to western regions, or for those wishing to extend their exploration beyond the classic steppe sites.

Atmosphere and setting

The camp's 34 white gers are arranged in a valley of Arkhangai, a region renowned for its meadows, rivers and larch forests. In the evening, after time at the pools, travelers gather around the central restaurant, which can serve up to 120 guests. The atmosphere remains that of a classic Mongolian camp: felt and wood for the gers, central stove, simple beds, and the characteristic calm of the high plateaus as darkness falls.

Location and access

The camp is located 482 km west of Ulaanbaatar, 115 km from Karakorum and 28 km southeast of Tsetserleg, the capital of Arkhangai province. The road from Ulaanbaatar is largely paved to Karakorum, then alternates with dirt tracks depending on the route chosen. Allow one to two days of travel to reach the camp from the capital, depending on stops.

When to visit

The camp is open from May to October, the standard seasonal window for ger camps in central Mongolia. June to September offers the most stable conditions: verdant steppes in June-July, Naadam festivities in July, golden landscapes in September. Nights remain cool even in summer at this altitude, so bring warm clothing.
