The Ice Festival takes place each year over two days on the frozen lake of Khövsgöl during the first weekend of March, a tradition since 2002.

During this traditional celebration, residents of the Khövsgöl region, along with Russian communities living in the border areas, gather on the shores of the lake to participate in the event and its organized activities, such as horse sledding races and competitions featuring a Mongolian curling variant called Shagain Naadam. Ice sculptures are constructed and other entertainment is offered, including ice skating.
