The Khorgo – Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur natural park is home to two treasures of Mongolia: the Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake and the extinct Khorgo volcano.

Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, meaning "white lake of the Terkh river", sits at an elevation of 2,060 meters. It is the crown jewel of Arkhangai and one of the country's most stunning lakes. It was formed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Khorgo. Indeed, it is surrounded by the craters of other extinct volcanoes. The lake stretches 16 kilometers long and 4 to 10 kilometers wide. Its surface area is 61 km², with an average depth of 20 meters. It is home to numerous pike and many other fish species. It remains frozen for much of the year. This area remains wild, and you may encounter sika deer, marsh deer, wild boars, ducks, or great cormorants.

Within the Khorgo – Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur natural park, you can also observe and climb Khorgo, an extinct volcano rising to 2,240 meters above sea level east of Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake. The easy hike of roughly 16 kilometers will lead you to the summit of this extinct volcano covered in basalt, which was active 8,000 years ago. Its crater measures 200 meters in diameter and 70 to 80 meters in depth, and is surrounded by small groves of trees. It has been protected since 1965.

Around the Khorgo volcano lies a geologically remarkable zone consisting of solidified lava bubbles; locals call this place the "basalt yurts".
