The Association Goviin Khulan works for the protection of the wild Mongolian wild ass of Mongolia and its habitat, and for a better harmony between nature, animals and men.
The Association Goviin Khulan is a French non-profit-making association that works on the international level. It has many Mongolian and international specialists, wild fauna lovers, and biodiversity preservation defenders. Its action is based on closed collaboration with local people directly involved in its project.
The aims: “reaching a better harmony between nature, animals and men”, helping the protection of the wild Mongolian wild ass of Mongolia (called “khulan” in Mongolian, or equus hemionus hemionus) and its habitat (Gobi Desert), improving relationship between men and Mongolian wild asses, make the local inhabitants actors of the protection of the species and its habitat, helping to conserve biodiversity, informing, alerting, raising and involving the local and international population in conserving biodiversity and sustainable gestion of natural ressources.
Actions are mainly led in South and Southeast Gobi (Ömnögovi and Dornogovi provinces) because few actions have been led there formerly to protect the species.
The wild Mongolian wild ass of Mongolia is a sub-species of wild Mongolian wild ass of Asia, it's inscribed on the Red List of UICN as an “endangered species”.
Mongolia is a very important place for conservation of the entire species.
Since the beginning, the association has been working with scientists and Monglian specialists of protection of species and nature, with the Mongolian government, rangers and local population. These cooperations are very important to lead the project and reach success.
