The aimag of Bulgan lies in northern Mongolia, a territory defined by the Khangai mountain range and vast expanses of forests and steppes.

The province shares a northern border with Russia.

The soil is sandy, with semi-desert characteristics prevailing toward the south. The Bulgan Khan Uul, Buregkhangai, and Dulaankhan mountains are the province's highest peaks.

The magnificent Selenge River, along with the Orkhon, Tuul, and Khanui rivers, flow through the aimag.

Coniferous forests and medicinal herbs—including berries, gooseberries, sea buckthorn, plantain, Artemisia peonies, and thyme—thrive in the province's fertile soils. Mixed forest covers 30% of the aimag.

Elk, bears, deer, Mongolian gazelles, musk deer, lynxes, squirrels, and marmots make their home in the region.

Bulgan Province is remarkably scenic. Notable areas include Eg-Selenge, the Eg-Tarvagatai pastures, Uran-Togoo, and Khugnukhan. The hot springs at Khulji and Uurt are particularly popular destinations.

Historically, the province holds stone age relics, ancient ruins, and the site of Baibalyk, a former city of the Uighur state, as well as the remains of Prince Tsogt's residence. Bulgan Province holds profound spiritual significance for Mongols as an important pilgrimage destination, given its wealth of historical heritage.

Agriculture is the province's primary economic sector, with Bulgan ranking third nationally in agricultural output. Local industry produces a diverse range of goods including agro-food products, gold, and consumer goods. Average annual industrial output reaches 1.9 billion tugrik. Local revenues account for 70% of the province's budget.
