Choisir un voyage nature et paysages en Mongolie, c'est accepter des distances qui se comptent en jours, des horizons qui s'élargissent à mesure qu'on s'enfonce dans les steppes, et un silence qu'on n'entend plus ailleurs. Le pays couvre 1 564 000 km² pour à peine 3,4 millions d'habitants : la densité la plus faible au monde, et cela se ressent à chaque kilomètre parcouru.

Nos itinéraires conçus depuis nos bureaux d'Oulan-Bator traversent quatre grandes régions naturelles, chacune avec sa propre identité géographique :

  • Les steppes centrales, vastes prairies vallonnées où paissent chevaux et yacks autour des campements de yourtes ;
  • Le désert de Gobi, dont les dunes de Khongoryn Els atteignent 300 mètres de hauteur et côtoient les falaises rouges de Bayanzag ;
  • Le massif de l'Altaï mongol, à l'ouest, où les sommets dépassent 4 000 mètres et abritent encore quelques familles d'aigliers kazakhs ;
  • La région du lac Khövsgöl, au nord, surnommée la « perle bleue », bordée de forêts de mélèzes et de villages tsaatans éleveurs de rennes.

Voyager ici implique de composer avec les saisons. L'été court, de juin à septembre, ouvre l'accès aux pistes du Gobi et aux festivals naadam ; l'hiver, plus rude, réserve aux voyageurs aguerris la glace turquoise du Khövsgöl et les chasses à l'aigle dans l'Altaï. Nos équipes sur place ajustent chaque circuit à la fenêtre climatique réelle, plutôt qu'aux brochures lissées.
