The spirit of travel

The wind carries ancestral songs over the hills of Orkhon while incense smoke rises from the Gandantegchinlen monastery. In this Mongolie with boundless horizons, each sunrise reveals a sacred territory where shamanic traditions still resonate.

The journey winds from the Orkhon valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to the Elsen Tasarkhai dunes, then towards the Tsenkher hot springs and the ancient capital of Karakorum. In the heart of the Gobi, the Khamar monastery and the Shambala meditation caves offer unique spiritual stops. Each stage reveals eternal Mongolie: that of nomadic families perpetuating the art of hospitality, Przewalski horses galloping at dusk, traditional khorkhog barbecues shared under yurts.

This land was the cradle of Genghis Khan's empire and remains imbued with the wisdom of Zanabazar, who composed the Soyombo alphabet there. Guided by a local shaman, the traveler discovers millennia-old rituals in a grand setting, between verdant steppes and the Khangai mountains. An itinerary that transforms inner quest into authentic Mongolian adventure.

Visit to Mongolia's oldest monastery

KarakorumGuide francophoneGuide furgonCook - discovery circuitShaman assistantShaman

Route for Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of the Mongols. Founded in 1220 by Genghis Khan, this emblematic city was one of the major stops on the Silk Road. It was from Karakorum that the Mongol empire was administered until the capital was transferred to Beijing by Kublai Khan. Today, only a few remains of the capital survive, recalling the historical importance of this place marked by the passage of the great khans.

Visit of the Erdene zuu monastery, built in 1586 by a nomadic prince. The complex, inspired by Chinese and Tibetan architecture, is surrounded by 108 sacred stupas, which testify to the spiritual importance of the site. The discovery continues at the Karakorum museum, devoted to the history of the ancient capital and its region.

Mystical stay in the Shambala region

SaïnshandGuide francophoneGuide furgonCook - discovery circuitShaman assistantShaman

Morning arrival in Sainshand, at the gates of the eastern Gobi desert. You immediately set off to discover the Khamar monastery, founded in the 1820s by Danzanravjaa, a prominent Mongolian educator, poet and man of letters. A spiritual landmark of the country, this monastery was once a major center of Buddhism of the "red sect", where teachings, theater and meditation coexisted harmoniously. To the north of the site, you can also explore the meditation caves, where monks would retreat to pray and meditate in the silence of the desert.

In the afternoon, you reach the Bayanzurkh mountain, which peaks at 1031 meters altitude. This small mountain range is another major place of veneration, where Jamiyandanzan, the third greatest lama of the Gobi, was buried. Many temples and monuments have been erected in his memory.

A trail dotted with stupas and ovoo leads to the summit, from which a 360° panoramic view unfolds over the Sainshand region, bathed in light and silence — an ideal setting for contemplation and meditation.

A little further on is one of the most sacred places of Mongolian Buddhist spirituality: Shambala. Considered the gateway to a mythical spiritual realm, a symbol of joy, balance and harmony, this site is today a highly respected place of energetic pilgrimage in Mongolia.
