The Munkhtenger Ger Camp is located 1 km southwest of Karakorum village, within Orkhon Valley National Park. Opened in 2006, it accommodates up to 66 guests across 25 traditional gers, in close proximity to the former capital of the Mongol Empire.

Atmosphere and on-site experience

The gers are arranged in a circle following Mongolian tradition, with a large central ger serving as restaurant and performance hall. Each evening, the camp regularly hosts traditional music and singing performances, including khoomii (throat singing). The venue can accommodate up to 40 spectators during these cultural evenings.

Beyond the entertainment offerings, the setting invites simple contemplation of the steppe: sunrise over the hills, herds grazing nearby, star-filled skies unmarred by light pollution.

The gers

The camp offers three categories of accommodation, all in traditional gers:

• 4 luxury gers equipped with 2 beds each
• 5 semi-luxury gers with 2 beds each
• 16 standard gers with 3 to 4 beds, suited for families or small groups

Sanitation facilities are grouped in a dedicated concrete building with 4 toilets and 8 shared showers, meeting the standard for Mongolian camps of this size.

Location

The camp is positioned 1 km southwest of Karakorum, within Orkhon Valley National Park, approximately 380 km west of Ulaanbaatar. The road from the capital is largely paved, though plan for a full day's travel by vehicle.
