Dadal is a small village located almost 600km northeast of Ulan Bator. Part of the Khentii Province, it is known as the birthplace of Genghis Khan.

This magnificent region lies at the heart of a national park and is brimming with impressive nature, featuring stunning lakes, rivers, and forests.

The village itself is quite charming and welcoming, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the capital.

If you pass near Dadal, a visit to the village is essential, particularly the museum dedicated to the memory and birth of Genghis Khan, as well as the history of his descendants. A map showcases the extent of the Mongol Empire during its reign. Period artifacts are sure to spark your curiosity.

Just outside the village stands a monument composed of three stupas, a moving tribute to the people of the surrounding area who were purged during the communist revolution starting in 1930. Among the 607 victims, the majority were members of the Buryat ethnic group, wrongly accused of conspiring with the Japanese.

If you venture further north through the region, you'll discover Deluun Boldog, the hill renowned as the precise birthplace of Genghis Khan around 1162.

The atmosphere is heavy with history, marked by an engraved stele commemorating the event, along with a large "Ovoo"—a sacred Mongolian monument—where numerous offerings and food are left by pilgrims. This location is magnificent, offering views across the surrounding valleys, and hiking opportunities abound from this vantage point.

This entire region is encompassed within the provincial nature reserve known as Onon Balj, extending to the far north of the country and bordering Russia.
