On our "classic" itineraries, we typically work with 2-star hotels that offer, in our view, the best value for money. The hotels we partner with are the Dream, the Guide, and the Kharaa. All are located in downtown Ulaanbaatar—the Dream Hotel and Guide Hotel on the Small Ring, and the Kharaa Hotel on Peace Avenue. These hotels are functional and clean, though not selected for their charm (the concept of a boutique hotel is currently absent from Ulaanbaatar's hospitality offerings). Please note, in particular, that:

• staff at these hotels generally do not speak English;
• only the Dream Hotel has an elevator in the main building;
• hot water can sometimes be an issue, especially during the two weeks each summer when Ulaanbaatar cuts hot water district by district (the city cleans the pipes in preparation for winter);
• these establishments are chosen for their quietness (no karaoke in the hotel). While they generally perform well on this front, you're not entirely shielded from the occasional night when your neighbors might be somewhat noisy.

If these conditions don't suit you, we invite you to select an upgraded hotel category as an option. Note: on group trips, if you're traveling alone, you may be asked to share a room with two single beds with another participant of the same gender traveling alone. If you prefer not to share your room, you should then add the "single" supplement.
