Khentii Province is renowned as the birthplace of Mongol Empire's most powerful emperor: Chinggis Khaan. Chinggis Khaan was born in the mountains of Burkhan Khaldun near the basin where three rivers converge.
Khentii is situated in a rolling terrain region and shares its northern border with the Russian Federation.
The climate, soils, and landscapes gradually transform into endless grasslands as you move from west to east. Annual precipitation ranges between 200–300 mm.
The province's highest point is the summit of Asralt Khairkhan at 2,799 meters above sea level.
The province is home to 70 rivers including the Onon, Kherulen, Balzh, Khurkh, Ulz, and Tsenkher. Khentii is equally abundant in numerous hot and cold springs, such as those at Gurvun Nuur, Onon, Avarga Toson, and Tars.
Many fruits thrive in Khentii, including wild cherry, bilberry, and black currant. The region is also rich in medicinal herbs such as thermopsis, valerian, and pseudostellaria, as well as natural condiments like altaicuma, allium, adorum, allium senenceves, and lilium pumilum.
Khentii is abundant in raw materials. The region has discovered and industrially developed resources including smoky quartz, asbestos, coal, iron ore, tungsten, and tin. Multiple mining operations are active: 3 coal quarries each producing 489.2 million tonnes; 18 quarries producing 21.3 million tonnes of feldspar; 2 gold quarries and 17 tin quarries.
