On April 12,
The Eagle Huntress will hit theaters—a documentary film directed by Otto Bell that tells the extraordinary story of the first-ever winner of the eagle hunting competition in Mongolie.
We are invited to follow Aisholpan, a 13-year-old girl, on her quest to become the first woman in her family to become an eagle hunter, a tradition passed down from father to son for centuries.
Aisholpan, who shares a particularly close bond with her father, an eagle hunter himself, knows she can rely on his experience and guidance. He patiently teaches her how to position her arm correctly, allowing the eagle to launch and take flight. This requires considerable upper-body strength, and many adult men actually struggle with this demanding task.

Once the young girl has grasped the fundamentals of eagle hunting, her father decides it's time for her to have her own bird, which she must retrieve from a nest. This happens when they both climb to the top of a steep cliff, capture the eagle, wrap it in a carpet, and bring it down...
From that moment on, Aisholpan dedicates herself entirely to training the eagle, developing an intimate bond comparable to that between a dog and its owner.
Her training unfolds with the Golden Eagle Festival as her goal—a competition bringing together 70 of the finest Kazakh eagle hunters (which we've covered
here). To reach the event, Aisholpan and her father must traverse vast stretches of barren land, with this dream driving them forward...
