Seasonality is pronounced: vegetation flourishes between June and August, nights stay cool even at the height of summer, and the lake freezes completely during winter.

Location

The camp is situated on the south-east shore of Lake Khövsgöl, in the Alag Tsar region, in northern Mongolia. Access is via Mörön, the provincial capital, by all-terrain vehicle. Plan for several hours' drive to reach the south-east shore, which is less served than Khatgal and the western shore.

When to visit

The tourist season runs from June through early September, the period when gers are operational and water activities are accessible. July and August offer the mildest temperatures and peak forest blooms. From mid-September onwards, nights grow cold and most camps close. The lake freezes completely from January to April, when the camp is closed.

What to see in the region

From Alag Tsar, several points of interest dot the Khövsgöl region: motorboat excursions to the lake's centre, visits to Tsaatan reindeer herder settlements deep in the taiga, or exploration of the Darkhad valley to the west.
