The Ögii ger camp is located on the shores of Ögii Lake, in the sum of Ögiinuur, Arkhangai province, approximately 390 km west of Ulaanbaatar. In operation since 2000, it stands as one of the most established lodging bases on this freshwater lake, renowned for its fishing and birdlife.

Why stay at Ögii camp

The site combines three assets rarely found together elsewhere in central Mongolia: a permanent body of water suited to water activities, dense avifauna (Ögii Lake is designated a Ramsar site for migratory birds) and a central location in Arkhangai, midway between the Khorgo volcanoes and the former imperial capital Karakorum. The camp allows you to base yourself for two or three nights without needing to relocate.

Camp atmosphere

The 25 traditional gers are arranged in an arc facing the lake, a short distance from the shore. The camp accommodates up to 60 people, maintaining a relatively intimate scale despite its capacity. Evenings center around the wooden restaurant chalet and, weather permitting, on the lawns sloping toward the water—a setting where sunsets over the lake are among the day's highlights.

The environment remains that of a steppe camp: relative silence, herds of horses and yaks nearby, clear skies in the evening.

Services and dining

The restaurant occupies a wooden chalet seating approximately 150 guests. It operates on a full-board basis, with no à la carte menu, featuring a rotation of Mongolian, European and Asian dishes. What sets this place apart is the regular presence of fresh fish caught in the lake, rare in inland Mongolian cuisine.

Upon prior request, the kitchen prepares traditional Mongolian barbecues: khorkhog (meat cooked with hot stones in a metal drum) and boodog (cooking inside the animal's hide).

As for facilities, the gers are served by a shared sanitary block with hot showers and Western-style toilets. The camp is covered by GSM network, which is not systematic in this part of Arkhangai.
