Lake Dörgön sits at 1,132 meters altitude in the depression of the great lakes, in Khovd province. It borders the Gobi-Altai and Zavkhan provinces. Its formation dates to the prehistoric period, of which it remains one of the rare representatives.
It stretches 24 km long and 18 km wide, with a total surface area of 311 km². Its maximum depth is 27 meters and it holds a water volume of 4,367 km³. Its salinity level is 4%.
