The sum of Tariat
The sum of Tariat
Dormant crater, White Lake and nomadic camps: Tariat sum brings together the most spectacular volcanic landscapes of central Mongolie.
Tariat is one of the sums of Arkhangai province, founded in 1931, covering an area of 4,567 km². It comprises seven villages (Terkh, Tsagaan Nuur, Khorgo, Suman, Büürüljuut, Mürün and Altaad). The center of Tariat sum is located southeast of the Khorgo - Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park, which includes Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake and the extinct Khorgo volcano. This tourist site presents spectacular landscapes shaped notably by ancient lava flows. Around Khorgo volcano lies a geologically remarkable zone of solidified lava bubbles; locals call this place "the basalt gers."
In this sum, we work with several families from the Ar Arvidjin Delgerekh yak herders' cooperative. They offer the chance to discover in small groups the various activities linked to yak herding, as well as other nomadic pursuits.
