Demonstration at Sukhbaatar Square

For the past three days, herders from several aimags representing three different civil movements in Mongolia have settled on Sukhbaatar Square. Currently, there are around 100 people on the square and 8 gers. Most of them come from Uvurkhangai, Tuv, Khentii, and Dundgobi.
The purpose of this demonstration is to protect their regions against mining activities. Particularly concerning the pollution of rivers. As one representative of the Ongi River movement stated: "We are calling for the resignation of those currently in power and new elections." This demonstration on Sukhbaatar is considered a violation of the law. However, another 300 herders from aimags further west are still expected to arrive.
