For those passing through Ulaanbaatar seeking to escape the city's hustle and bustle and breathe in some fresh air, a visit to the equestrian statue of Genghis Khan might prove worthwhile.

As a reminder, this colossal statue stands at 40 meters tall and ranks as the world's largest equestrian statue! The complex is situated at Tsonjin Boldog, the birthplace of Genghis Khan, in Töv aimag, 60 kilometers from the capital Ulaanbaatar.

Its official opening dates to September 2008, and numerous construction projects are still being planned around it: 200 gers for accommodation, a golf course, an open-air theater, a pond, sports facilities, and the planting of over 10,000 trees. Although the complex is not yet fully complete, there are already plenty of activities to enjoy in the surrounding area, allowing you to make the most of your visit.

First and foremost, we naturally suggest visiting the statue itself. An adult ticket costs 7,000 tugriks (approximately €3), while children's tickets are 3,500 tugriks (€1.50). Inside the statue, you'll find a museum displaying artifacts from the Bronze Age and the Xiongnu Empire, souvenir shops galore, cafés, a restaurant, and even a post office! Furthermore, visitors have the opportunity to enter inside the horse's head, from which they can admire a panoramic view of Tsonjin Boldog. Quite symbolic!

For total immersion in Mongolian culture and unforgettable souvenir photos, you can also don traditional Mongolian costumes for a modest 3,500 tugriks (€1.50). You'll surely find something to suit your taste among the selection offered!

Animal lovers will also be delighted, as you can slip on a glove and request a photo with a magnificent eagle perched on your arm. Fair warning—it weighs quite a bit!

It's worth noting that the complex's ger camp began welcoming its first visitors this year and offers bathrooms with hot water inside the accommodations. Prices for one night range between 135,000 and 165,000 tugriks (€60 to €75). Next, we'd heartily recommend making a detour to the monument dedicated to Höelün, who was none other than the mother of Genghis Khan. Like Genghis Khan's wife Börte, Höelün was regarded as one of the most influential figures in the famous Mongolian warrior's life, as well as one of his most trusted advisers. She also cared for war orphans during her son's conquests, adopting them and integrating them into the family—a policy designed to secure the loyalty of conquered tribes.

For those seeking a bit more adrenaline, a ride in an autogyro (or gyrocopter) is also worth considering. Simply head about 3 kilometers from the statue complex, and you'll be able to soar above Tsonjin Boldog and the Tuul River for an unforgettable experience!

Prices vary depending on flight duration but range between 40,000 and 300,000 tugriks (€15 to €130). Now fully satisfied with your day, you decide to head back to Ulaanbaatar... But on the way back, you discover the existence of a go-kart track. A quick stop is in order!

There are up to 10 go-karts available, so you can race with a maximum of 10 people on the 365-meter-long track—ideal when you're with family or a small group. A single race costs just 5,000 tugriks (approximately €2). There you have it—the main attractions around Genghis Khan's colossal equestrian statue.
