The shortage of kindergartens in the Mongolian steppes is a real challenge. Many nomadic children lack access to education due to insufficient facilities, and where schools do exist, some are unsanitary and poorly suited to the needs of families and young learners.

Committed to providing education for children from nomadic families, Horseback Mongolia partners with Educate to create and fund a kindergarten at Mazar Bag in the Övörkhangai province (Central Mongolie).

Early childhood education for steppe children

Mongolie is still home to 30% nomadic families across its territory. These herding families move between 3 and 4 times a year depending on seasons, pasture availability, and weather, explaining the difficulty for young children to access suitable early childhood education.

Early education starting at a young age (ages 2 to 4) in kindergarten is essential to ensure children can pursue a proper schooling path. The skills acquired in kindergarten are invaluable and enable faster socialization, paving the way for successful transition to primary school.

A kindergarten inside a yurt

To address the absence of kindergartens in the steppes, it was decided to create yurt-based schools. Accustomed to this type of dwelling, children feel at home and can concentrate better during learning activities. This idea, supported by UNICEF, enabled the yurt school project to become reality from 2016 onwards with the opening of two schools. They were hugely successful with families, delighted to be able to enroll their children in an environment suited to their lifestyle.

In August 2016, the Educate association built its first school in Ulan Am. With the help of 25 volunteers, the small school came to life and today welcomes about twenty children aged 2 to 4.

Horseback Mongolia becomes an Educ'Actor for Educate

Now it's our turn to raise our voice and support the Educate association in its school creation project. In 2018, two new yurt-based kindergartens will open, including a Horseback school at Mazar Bag south of Arvaikheer and another in Ondorshireet. With your donations, Horseback finances the Mazar Bag school, while we organize the journey for 25 volunteers and all logistics for the Ondorshireet school, which will be funded by Educate thanks to donations.

We invite you to participate in this unique adventure by becoming an actor in this wonderful project and actively contributing to the construction of the Mazar school with our dedicated program: Solidarity Trips: Construction of the Mazar School. You will attend the inauguration and opening of the school, which will be celebrated with festivities and a grand Mongolian barbecue with the entire hamlet community and parents—a truly momentous occasion!

School funding will be made possible through you and our organized trips to Mongolie. For each traveler, we commit to donating €100 to the school. A donation system will soon be available on the website with each booking. For every €10 raised, we commit to matching it.

This way we can provide a well-adapted yurt-based school and quality equipment to welcome steppe nomadic children as soon as possible.

Let's build together the future of these young ones and give them access to genuine education.

With Horseback Mongolia and Educate, become an Educ'Actor!
