Dream, Guide and Kharaa: three functional 2-star hotels in central Ulaanbaatar, selected for their location, peaceful atmosphere and value for money.

Three functional addresses in central Ulaanbaatar

On our standard circuits in Mongolia, we work with three 2-star hotels in Ulaanbaatar: the Dream Hotel, the Guide Hotel and the Kharaa Hotel. All three are chosen for their central location, cleanliness and value for money that stands the test of time. Dream and Guide are located on the small ring road, Kharaa on Peace Avenue, the capital's main thoroughfare.

These establishments are honest about what they are: practical urban hotels, without pretension to charm. An offer of 3-star hotels in Ulaanbaatar exists as an option for travellers seeking superior comfort.

Why we selected these three hotels

The choice of a 2-star category in Ulaanbaatar follows simple logic: offer central, clean and quiet accommodation without inflating the overall budget of an itinerary whose essence unfolds in the steppe, desert or ger. City nights frame arrival and departure, as well as possible transitions between regions; they are not meant to be the heart of the experience.

We also selected these addresses for their nighttime tranquility. None of the three houses a karaoke bar, which matters in Ulaanbaatar where some neighbouring establishments can stay lively late into the evening. The result is satisfactory in the vast majority of cases, though we cannot guarantee absolute protection from a noisy neighbour.

Atmosphere: sober, urban, no frills

The atmosphere of these hotels is that of downtown establishments serving a mixed clientele (travellers, regional business professionals). Common areas are minimal, service is quick and direct. Staff generally do not speak English; should you need assistance, your English-speaking guide remains your principal contact during your stay.

Rooms are functional. We do not describe them here in detail as configurations vary from one hotel to another and from one stay to another depending on availability.

Services and practical points to anticipate

  • Elevator: only the Dream Hotel has one in its main building. Guide and Kharaa operate via stairs — worth noting in advance if you're travelling with bulky luggage or have reduced mobility.
  • Hot water: Ulaanbaatar undertakes pipeline cleaning each summer in preparation for winter. This operation causes hot water outages by neighbourhood, lasting approximately two weeks. If your trip falls during this period, the affected hotel may be impacted.
  • Wi-Fi: available in common areas, quality variable depending on occupancy.
  • Breakfast: served on-site, simple format.

If these conditions don't suit you, you can opt for a higher category as an add-on when preparing your quote.

Room policy on group travel

On group departures, solo travellers share a twin bedroom with another participant of the same gender also booked as a single. The single supplement guarantees a private room for those who prefer not to share.

Location: at the heart of the capital

Central Ulaanbaatar concentrates the essential points of interest before or after a circuit: Sukhbaatar Square, Gandan Monastery, National Museum, restaurants and money changers. From the small ring road as from Peace Avenue, these spots are reached on foot or by taxi in minutes. This is the main quality of these three addresses: being positioned where you need to be, without unnecessary transfers.
