The Menen Steppes are undoubtedly the largest in Mongolia and in the world, spanning an area of 5,400 km². Stretching across the eastern territory of Dornod province, west of Lake Buir, Menen has retained its authenticity and successfully preserved its ecosystem. These lands are home to abundant wildlife and flora, and boast one of Asia's largest gazelle migrations, numbering 1.2 million. The eastern part of Mongolia, including Erdenetsagan, Matad, and Khalkh, became a protected area in 1992, with the goal of preserving the ecosystem. Its rolling landscapes, with verdant scenery, border the Numrug and Khalkh Gol rivers. The Menen Steppes are divided into two sections: the northern part, Kherlen, named after the river; and the southern part, Tamsag. The terrain relief is fairly regular with an average altitude of 500 to 1,200 meters.
