This small saline lake, situated 100km from Ulaangom, the capital of Uvs Province, nestles between the Turgen and Tsagaan Shuvuut mountains. The lake extends 19.5km in length and 18km in width, with a circumference of 65.5km.

Several rivers and streams such as Tsagdul and Kharigiin flow into its waters. Water temperature averages between 14–15°C at the Kharigiin river mouth, and 12–13°C at its center. During winter months, from October to May, the waters freeze and ice reaches 1.2 to 1.5m in thickness.

The lake sits in a semi-desert region with arid vegetation, reminiscent of the Gobi region. The animal species that inhabit the site, such as the Swan Goose and the Pallas's Sea-Eagle, are among the threatened species.

Notably around the lake's shores, we find the Pallas's Cat and the Red Fox.
