The spirit of travel
On the banks of the Tuul River, the white yurts of a family of herders stand out against the granite formations of Terelj Park. For three days, the morning milking of animals and the preparation of dried cheese punctuate your nomadic daily life, between horseback rides through the valleys and discovery of perched temples.
The Transmongolian then carries you towards the ochre expanses of Sainshand, where the Khamar Monastery and meditation caves bear witness to the spiritual heritage of the Gobi. Camel herders welcome you in their isolated camps, while the sacred mountains of Bayanzurkh offer their endless panoramas over the desert. The return via Khustai reveals one last treasure: Przewalski's horses drinking at dusk.
This Mongolie between nature and culture perpetuates the traditions of horse-riding peoples, heirs to Genghis Khan and guardians of a Buddhism tinged with shamanism. A circuit designed for families that will remain engraved in the memories of children like those of the infinite steppes.
The stages of your journey
Highlights
Day-by-day itinerary

Welcome and discoveries in Ulaanbaatar
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian capital, where vast steppes gradually give way to an astonishing city, blending Soviet heritage, nomadic traditions and emerging modernity. You will be greeted by your driver and transferred to the city center, offering your first glimpse of this fascinating destination with already striking landscapes. Check-in at your hotel and rest (early check-in not included).
The rest of the day is free. You can take this opportunity to rest, stroll around your hotel and begin discovering Ulaanbaatar city center at your own pace.
Nature Immersion in Terelj Park
Oulan Bator → Terelj
You take the road towards the Gorkhi national park, a natural gem located at the gates of the capital. The landscape is composed of rock formations sculpted by erosion, mountains covered in pine trees, flowering plains where edelweiss and wild flowers grow, as well as rivers and lakes that bring a peaceful atmosphere to the whole.
You stop at the Turtle Rock, before continuing on foot towards the Aryaval Monastery. This walk takes you into the heart of the characteristic granite reliefs of the park, up to the small monastery clinging to the mountainside.
You arrive at a family of herders settled on the banks of the Tuul river, where you will stay for 3 days. You discover a peaceful and varied environment, and share the daily life of your hosts. Depending on current activities, you will be offered the opportunity to participate in milking animals or in the preparation of traditional dairy products.
Activities according to seasonality.
Free Exploration and Nomadic Experiences
For two days, you explore freely the surroundings and fully enjoy this natural setting. If you wish, you can set off on a horseback ride along the Tuul River and progress into the heart of the park. From your mount, the landscape unveils itself in all its forms: watercourses, open steppes and forests that extend to the neighboring reliefs.
For those who prefer to stay on foot, hiking excursions are offered as an alternative, allowing you to appreciate the park from another angle, at a peaceful and immersive pace.
During your stay, you also witness the preparation of a Mongolian barbecue, a convivial moment that you share with your hosts before enjoying this traditional meal together.

Return to Ulan Bator and overnight train to Sainshand
Terelj → Statue équestre de Gengis Khan
In the morning, you have the possibility of setting off on a new hike, or simply enjoying a few extra moments with the family who warmly welcomed you over these three days.
You take your leave of your hosts and then head to the equestrian statue of Genghis Khan. Standing 40 meters high, it is considered the largest equestrian statue in the world. You visit its interior, where there is a museum dedicated to the figure of Genghis Khan and Mongolian history.
Statue équestre de Gengis Khan → Oulan Bator
After the visit, you head back to Ulaanbaatar, where you enjoy some free time to stroll through the capital and explore its neighborhoods at your own pace.
In the early evening, you board the local train of the Transmongolien, heading to Sainshand, at the gateway to the Gobi Desert. This train, frequented mainly by Mongolians, promises an authentic and friendly atmosphere. Overnight stay on board, in a closed compartment with four berths. You will reach Sainshand in the morning, ready for the next stage of your adventure.
Dinner and beverages to be arranged.

Sacred Sites and Gobi Panoramas
Morning arrival in Sainshand, at the gates of the eastern Gobi desert. You immediately set off to discover the Khamar Monastery, founded in the 1820s by Danzanravjaa, an eminent Mongolian educator, poet and man of letters. A spiritual center of the country, this monastery was once a major center of Buddhism of the "red sect", where teaching, theater and meditation coexisted harmoniously. To the north of the site, you can also explore the meditation caves, where monks retreated to pray and meditate in the silence of the desert.
A little further away lies one of the most sacred places of Mongolian Buddhist spirituality: Shambala. Considered the gateway to a mythical spiritual realm, a symbol of joy, balance and harmony, this site is now a highly respected place of energetic pilgrimage in Mongolia.
In the afternoon, you join the Bayanzurkh mountain, which reaches an altitude of 1031 meters. This small massif is another major place of veneration, where Jamiyandanzan, the third greatest lama of the Gobi, was buried. Numerous temples and monuments have been erected in his memory.
A path dotted with stupas and ovoos leads to the summit, from where a panoramic 360° view unfolds over the Sainshand region, bathed in light and silence — an ideal setting for contemplation and meditation.

Among the Camel Herders of the Gobi
This morning, we set off to meet a family of camel herders, an opportunity to discover Mongolian hospitality in all its authenticity. We share a traditional lunch at our hosts' home and exchange about their lifestyle, closely linked to the vast expanses of the desert.
We continue with a camel ride through the desert landscapes of the Sainshand region, an immersive experience allowing you to appreciate the serenity and immensity of the Gobi
After lunch, return to Sainshand for a visit to Danzanravjaa, dedicated to the life and work of this major 19th-century poet, educator and spiritual master.
In the evening, we board the overnight train to Ulan Bator. Night in a sleeper compartment (four-person cabins), before arriving in the capital the next morning.

Observation of Wild Horses of Khustai
Morning arrival at Ulan Bator train station, then visit of the Gandantegchinlen Monastery, the country's main Buddhist center. Every morning, monks gather there for prayers in an atmosphere filled with serenity. This visit also allows you to learn more about Mongolian Buddhism and freely exchange with people on the site.
Oulan Bator → Khustai
You take the road to the Khustai Reserve renowned for sheltering Przewalski's wild horses. Dusk is the ideal time to observe them: a walk takes you near their watering point, where you can contemplate them peacefully, without disturbing their natural rhythm.
You finish the day with one last night in the Mongolian steppe, welcomed by a nomadic family settled on the outskirts of the national park. A simple and warm immersion to close your journey as close as possible to pastoral life.

On the way back to Ulan Bator
Khustai → Oulan Bator
You take the road back to Ulan Bator. Along the way, the last herds of horses crossing the road and the last gers glimpsed in the distance accompany you to the outskirts of the capital.
You then arrive in the city center and settle into your hotel, where you can rest for a few moments.
The rest of the day is free. Accompanied by your guide, you explore the shops in the city to make your last purchases and enjoy the atmosphere of Ulan Bator one last time.
Stroll through the center of Ulaanbaatar discovering the famous Sukhbaatar Square, heart of the capital dominated by the imposing statue of Genghis Khan. You will also observe the Mongolian Parliament and the bustle of this amazing city, between Soviet heritage and nomadic culture.
Dive into the heart of Mongolian history when visiting the National History Museum. Spread over several floors, the museum traces the country's rich past, from the first nomadic civilizations through the Soviet period, including the rise of the great empire founded by Genghis Khan. A fascinating visit to better understand Mongolia's identity and culture.
Around 6:00 PM, you attend a traditional Mongolian show at Tumen Ekh, famous for its performances combining folk dances, traditional music, contortion acts and khoomi, the fascinating Mongolian throat singing inscribed in the intangible cultural heritage.

Good to see you again and until next time!
