Tsagaan Suvarga Ger Camp
Tsagaan Suvarga Ger Camp
A camp of 10 gers in a desert valley of the Gobi, near the Tsagaan Suvarga cliffs. Simple comfort, an ideal base for exploring the region.
The Tsagaan Suvarga ger camp is located in a vast desert valley in Omnogovi Province, 40 km from Tsogt-Ovoo and in immediate proximity to the Tsagaan Suvarga cliffs. A practical stop for those wishing to explore this remote sector of the Gobi without sacrificing decent comfort.
Why stay at Tsagaan Suvarga camp
The region has few nomadic herders and even fewer accommodation facilities. In this context, the camp is one of the rare options for exploring the white cliffs of Tsagaan Suvarga and the gorges of Del mountain. It is not a luxury camp, but the welcome is genuine and the facilities are consistent with the remoteness of the location: a logistical base rather than an exceptional experience.
Atmosphere and setting
The camp sits squarely in the desert steppe, in a mineral landscape typical of the Gobi: wide horizons, vast skies, near-absolute silence except for the wind. The sunsets over the Tsagaan Suvarga cliffs, which shift from ochre to pink, rank among the highlights of your stay. At night, the complete absence of light pollution offers a remarkable starry sky.
The gers
The camp has 10 traditional furnished gers, with a total capacity of around 30 people. Each ger follows the classic nomadic layout, with individual beds and a central stove for cool nights. The comfort is simple but sufficient for one or two transition nights during a Gobi circuit.
Services and dining
- Restaurant with 30 seats, serving Mongolian cuisine and a few dishes adapted for international travelers
- Shared sanitary block with toilets and showers
- Communal space for meals and evenings
Services remain intentionally limited, in keeping with camps in this zone. Hot water and electricity are available according to time slots set by the camp.
Location and access
Getting to the camp takes time: allow approximately 6 hours of driving from Dalanzadgad, and nearly double from Ulaanbaatar. The journey is by 4x4, partly on tracks, and constitutes a journey in itself. This difficult accessibility explains the region's moderate visitor numbers.
What to do from the camp
- Visit to the Tsagaan Suvarga cliffs, white sedimentary formations rising for several tens of meters
- Camel trekking in the surrounding steppe
- Discovery of Del mountain gorges: Ulaan am, Duruu Khanginakh and Boldiin am, three lesser-known but spectacular sites
- Stargazing, particularly clear at these desert latitudes
