The Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park stretches across roughly one hundred kilometers in Ömnögovi province and encompasses part of the Gobi-Altai mountain range. It was established in 1993, but only reached its present size in 2000. With an area of 27,000 hectares, Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park is the country's largest protected zone. Its name comes from the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains, meaning "the three beautiful ones"—the three highest peaks of this section of the Gobi-Altai range: Baruun Saikhan, "the western beauty"; Dund Saikhan, "the central beauty"; and Züün Saikhan, "the eastern beauty". The highest of the three, the eastern beauty, rises to 2,846 meters. Here you can discover the Yoliin Am Canyon.

The park encompasses rocky and sandy desert zones, the most celebrated being the Khongor Dunes. Visitors encounter numerous rock formations, dried basins, salt water courses, hot springs and oases. Over 620 plant species endemic to Central Asian deserts are represented here. The park is also home to abundant wildlife: Mongolian gazelles, goitered gazelles, khulan (Asiatic wild asses), Siberian ibex, argali sheep, wild goats, and the remarkably elusive snow leopard. In total, 52 mammal species are documented in this zone, eight of which are protected species.

The park is easily accessible from Dalanzadgad, the provincial capital, which has daily air connections to Ulaanbaatar.
