A great spot in Ulaanbaatar, especially when the weather turns crisp or cold, is the Hot Pot restaurant The Bull.

If you're unfamiliar with the Hot Pot concept, let me walk you through it: you order salads, mushrooms, meats, noodles, and other succulent aromatics and delicacies of all kinds, which you add progressively to a small individual pot filled with a broth you've chosen from 4 or 5 options. Everything cooks right in the broth and all you need to do is savor it, accompanied by a sauce of your choice—perhaps a blend of sesame oil and a nut paste medley, or spicy sauces for the more adventurous!

Born in China, the concept has been embraced here by Mongolians who absolutely love it, especially in winter.

It's very good and very healthy, and it's so convivial to serve yourself alongside others, sharing dishes, and working up a little sweat after a few bites!

Pleasure guaranteed with family, in groups, with friends, or even colleagues. The table fills up very quickly with varied dishes until there's barely room for a napkin! Yet everything finishes quite easily (small portions, finely sliced meat strips…)

The dining room, located on the 3rd floor of the building, features private spaces as well as small tables for different atmospheres depending on your group. With stylish, welcoming décor and very friendly staff.

Getting there: No difficulty at all! The building is Bluemon Tower, located directly across from the Chinese Embassy, on the other side of the intersection. The street is called Baga Toiruu, the small circle surrounding Genghis Khan Square, which is worth visiting for its pedestrian passages and plenty of good dining options and some quirky pubs.

The simplest route is to head along Sambu Street, east of Genghis Khan Square, and behind the Mongolian Parliament, until you reach the intersection with the Chinese Embassy—Bluemon Tower is right there waiting for you!

Price range: approximately 8–10 euros per person, depending on appetite!
